A native of Iloilo city, Atty. Padernal obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1984 at the Ateneo de Manila School of Law, and his Bachelor of Arts in History-Political Science degree in 1980 at the De La Salle University. During his stay in Ateneo, he was in the Dean's list of honor students, a scholar of the Ateneo University Scholarship Fund, and a Member of the Editorial Staff of the Ateneo Law Journal. He is also a member of the Fraternal Order of Utopia . He was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1985 and to the California State Bar in 2006. Right after law school, Atty. Padernal worked in the Supreme Court, at the Office of the Chief Justice, Felix V. Makasiar, and later, at the Office of the Court Administrator. Thereafter, he worked in the Trenas Law Offices, the Acaban Corvera del Castillo Law Offices, and the Lagustan and Mabasa Law Offices.
Later on, he founded the Law Firm of Mabasa Padernal & Burgos. In 1996, he joined the Litigation Department of the Ponce Enrile Cayetano Bautista Reyes & Manalastas Law Offices (PECABAR) as senior associate. He became a partner of PECABAR in July 1998 until he left in March 2004 to form APP Law. Atty. Padernal is a litigation lawyer by heart. He has actively handled various heinous crime cases, big land cases, intra-corporate disputes and criminal cases of high government officials at the Sandiganbayan. He has also handled labor cases, and administrative cases in different government agencies. His practice areas include: Litigation, Civil Law, Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Corporate Law, Family Law, Admiralty and Maritime Law, Real Estate Election Law, Transportation, Insurance Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Administrative Law.
